Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has announced that the movement control order (MCO) will be extended for another two weeks, from April 15 to April 28 to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The first phase of the MCO, which was introduced to break the chain of COVID-19 infection, was from March 18 to 31, followed by the second phase from April 1 to 14.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin also praised the brave men and women working for Malaysia’s healthcare on their efforts on ensuring the curve of COVID-19 is flatten further.
Through their efforts, the percentage of positive cases regarding COVID-19 is 7%, is below the benchmark of 10%, which has been set by the World Health Organization.
The death toll caused by the pandemic is also at its lowest, a percentage of 1.6% – in comparison to the global death rate which is 5.8%.
At the moment, there have been 1,830 patients who have recovered from COVID-19 and discharged from the hospital – an astounding 43% of COVID-19 patients have made the smooth journey to recovery.
Today, a total number of 220 patients have been discharged from hospitalization, outnumbering 118 positive cases. If this curve continues to flatten within the next two weeks, we can finally control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
While these spread of good news is good for our current psyche, we cannot forget to continue the social distancing when Ramadhan comes around and the festival holidays are slowly approaching.
