Got a lot of apps on your phone? Some of them are probably powered by AI.
Basically, AI is all around you, even right in your pocket!
In our ever-evolving digital landscape, artificial intelligence (AI) isn’t just a buzzword—it’s the silent engine powering a myriad of devices and services we interact with daily.
Let’s unveil five of these AI-powered apps!
5 AI-Powered Apps |
1. Spotify
Your Discover Weekly playlists, your Daily Mix 1, 2 and 3 – they’re all AI.
Spotify employs advanced AI algorithms to curate audio content tailored to individual users.
Through a comprehensive analysis of user interactions — from playlist formulations to listening history — the platform’s AI system discerns and anticipates user preferences.
As a result, upon accessing Spotify’s main interface, users are presented with rows of content encompassing both their recent engagements and algorithmically determined recommendations to enhance their listening experience. (That’s your playlists.)
Recently, Spotify has just announced a brand new AI-powered listening experience to deepen your connection with your favorite artists.
‘The DJ’ is your AI buddy attuned to your musical preferences, selecting tracks tailored just for you.
Although this feature is still in its beta phase, it’s designed to bring you a handpicked musical journey, peppered with insights on the tracks and artists, all delivered in an incredibly lifelike voice.
2. Google Maps
At its core, Google Maps relies heavily on analyzing past traffic trends.
Every road, lane, and freeway has its own unique “traffic fingerprint” – a pattern of how traffic ebbs and flows throughout the day and across different days of the week.
Think of a random highway. Observational data may indicate that early risers, possibly commuters, have the highway flowing smoothly at 60km/h from 6-7am.
However, by the time late afternoon rolls around, perhaps due to office-goers heading home or school pick-ups, the pace drops drastically to a crawl of 20km/h.
Machine learning algorithms train on vast datasets, learning from countless instances of traffic patterns. The more data these algorithms are fed, the better they get at recognizing patterns and anomalies.
3. Facebook
Saw a trending topic on Facebook? That’s the work of Deep Text.
Facebook processes user comments and posts as textual data. By breaking down these messages to individual characters, like letters and punctuation, machines aim to discern word relationships.
For instance, Deep Text seeks to understand slang usage and, by examining context, pinpoints the exact implication of a word with multiple interpretations.
This tech further assists in highlighting trending topics, screening out prohibited content, prioritizing search outcomes, and aligning users with relevant advertisements.
4. Gmail
Smart Compose is your go-to when you don’t want to pen an entire email from scratch but welcome a nudge or two with phrasing.
This tool operates on a hybrid language generation model powered by Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) to pop up with word suggestions.
Just hit the “Tab” key, and the suggested words seamlessly weave into your draft.
Meanwhile, Smart Reply, leveraging state-of-the-art machine learning technologies like deep neural networks (essentially a computer learning from past patterns), dishes out well-thought-out reply options.
So instead of bland responses like “Yes” or “No” to an invite, you might get vibrant ones like “Absolutely, I’m in!” or “Can’t tomorrow, but let’s reschedule!”
5. Virtual Assistants (Siri, Alexa, Cortana)
No time to type? Just say the magic words, Hey Siri!
Virtual assistants act as can help automate tasks for you.
With a simple voice command, users can manage their schedule, send messages, set reminders, or even start a favorite playlist.
Plus, you can even set up a routine. For example, saying “Good morning” might trigger a sequence where the assistant reads out the day’s weather, then news headlines, and finally starts playing a user’s favorite morning podcast.
If you have smart devices at home, you can also easily control and monitor them through your smart assistants through cloud connectivity, even if you’re away from home.
There’s a lot more about artificial intelligence that’s waiting to be uncovered.
